Situations change. Relationships change. Goals and dreams change. Thoughts and emotions change. One moment we are full of happiness, and the next, we might be dealing with something difficult.
Just like the waves in the ocean, life is a series of highs and lows.
Yet, we want things to stay the same. We prefer stability and predictability. We like structure and routine. But the reality is that everything is constantly changing and transforming. We all experience good times as well as tough times. They are all part of our human experience.
Things come, and things go. The idea of impermanence can be difficult to accept. Knowing that everything is temporary is not easy. Even thinking about it can feel uncomfortable.
"This too shall pass" is a simple yet powerful phrase, reminding us that everything is transient.
During times of happiness and success, I’m grateful but remind myself, "This too shall pass." In the midst of a challenging situation, I say to myself, "This too shall pass." Nothing is permanent, be it success or adversity. Just as the seasons change, so do the situations in my life.
By accepting that everything is temporary, I find it easier to maintain a balanced perspective on life. I respond to events without the desperate need for things to stay the same. I know that whatever I’m currently feeling or experiencing is temporary. This non-attachment helps me to maintain an inner balance and stay grounded. I expect that things will shift and change. I don’t take things for granted.
"This too shall pass" is not an excuse for inaction. It’s not a justification for doing nothing or ignoring our challenges. But it helps us focus on what we CAN do. "This too shall pass" can help us navigate our problems and continue moving forward. We don’t get stuck in the idea that things will never improve.
If everything is constantly changing, why hold on so tightly to people, situations, beliefs, and material possessions? Trying so hard to keep things the same can lead to many physical and emotional issues. Accepting and embracing the impermanence of life can help us gain a sense of internal stability. It can help us navigate life’s ups and downs with grace and resilience.
Perhaps it’s time for YOU to start cultivating "this too shall pass" mindset too?
